Kelingking Beach – Nusa Penida
This place is a must-visit if you’re in Nusa Penida. However, be cautious and adequately prepared if you plan to descend all the way down. It typically takes about 40 minutes to descend and a bit faster to ascend, depending on how crowded the path is. Please note that the path can be dangerous and is not well-maintained.
Trekking is best done either in the morning or late afternoon. Make sure to bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person and wear proper shoes. Avoid going barefoot or wearing flip-flops. Also, protect yourself from the intense sun, especially on the way up when you’re most tired.
Crystal Bay – Nusa Penida
As the name suggests, Crystal Bay boasts crystal-clear water. It’s a popular destination for both local and foreign tourists alike. It’s a wonderful spot for swimming and snorkeling, with plenty of shops offering food and snorkeling gear. However, be cautious while swimming here as there are sharp rocks. The road leading to this destination is well-maintained and scenic, lined with towering coconut trees.
The beach, though small, is undeniably beautiful. The sand, while not the whitest, adds to its charm. Coconut trees dot the shoreline, creating a picturesque scene. A pile of coral in the middle of the sea adds to the beach’s allure. It’s located about a 30-minute motorbike ride from the harbor and is a must-visit for swimming enthusiasts.
Atuh Beach
Atuh Beach is a hidden gem on Nusa Penida that will leave you in awe with its breathtaking clifftop views. Getting there can be a bit tricky, but the effort is absolutely worth it. The saying “hard to get to, hard to forget” holds true here – the terrain isn’t easy, requiring a good level of fitness and endurance, especially under the scorching sun.
Yet, the reward is priceless as you’re greeted with stunning natural beauty: the deep blue sea, clear skies, and coconut trees swaying gently in the breeze, all framed by blooming Plumeria flowers. Keep in mind that amenities like umbrellas, beach benches, and swings come at a cost.

Diamond Beach

It’s amazing to consider that Bali offers nearly every type of landscape found across Indonesia. Teletubbies Hill is a perfect example of this diversity. While it may not be as dramatic as the landscapes found on neighboring Sumba Island, it’s still a wonderful spot to visit, especially considering it’s free of charge. Plus, you can relish 30 minutes of refreshing breezes while you’re there.
The drive to Teletubbies Hill was absolutely magnificent and truly made the trip worthwhile all on its own. The hill itself is undeniably gorgeous and offers a fascinating glimpse into the local way of life on the island. It’s almost like stepping into a scene straight out of the Teletubbies series.
Goa Giri Putri
One of the most impressive temples in Bali, this sacred place demands respect from visitors. Please remember to adhere to all rules, such as wearing a sarong and other required clothing. It only takes about 7 minutes to reach the temple at the top, so the journey is relatively short but rewarding.
At first glance, this temple may appear small from the entrance. However, once you crawl through the hole, you’ll find yourself in a massive cave filled with places of worship and idols. The caves are dimly lit, which adds to the slightly spooky atmosphere, but they’re definitely worth exploring. Just be aware that you’ll need to climb in through a narrow opening and hunch down low through an archway once you’re inside.
Manta point – Nusa Penida
If you want to see mantas, it’s highly recommended to book in advance and contact them via WhatsApp. Otherwise, you might have to wait until the next day. The first dive takes you to Manta Point, where you can observe these majestic creatures, followed by a visit to Toya Pakeh to admire the colorful array of fish there.
The underwater world around Nusa Penida Island is truly amazing, with vibrant colors and diverse marine life. If you’re new to diving or feeling a bit unsure, don’t worry! The guides are always there with you, providing patient assistance and making sure you feel comfortable in the water.
Angel Billabong
On the western part of Nusa Penida, near Broken Beach, you’ll find breathtaking and awe-inspiring views. To reach this stunning spot, you’ll take a short walk from the parking area, passing by a few shops along the way.
Some of the most photogenic spots may have a line, so it’s important to be patient and allow everyone the chance to capture that perfect Instagram shot. When you’re taking your own photos, try to get as close to the rocks as you can, but always be mindful of the powerful waves. Safety first!
Broken Beach
This place is called “Broken Beach” because of its unique shape, resembling a hole in the side of the beach. Its distinctive form makes it a worthwhile spot for taking pictures. It’s a beautiful location for capturing scenic shots while you’re here.
It’s best to go early in the morning when it’s not too hot, and the trail isn’t too challenging. This beautiful beach features a rocky landscape, highlighted by an opening in the rock wall that leads out to the ocean. The water here is crystal blue, making it a picturesque spot to visit.
Treehouse
The view from the top showcases the stunning Raja Lima / Thousand Island, and to reach the Molenteng Tree House, you’ll need to descend many steep steps. To access the location of the inn, tourists must descend the cliff via stone stairs. Most visitors come here primarily for photography opportunities.
The stone staircase leading to the inn is quite steep, so tourists should be prepared to exert some stamina. There’s a fee if you want to take a picture with the tree house, and there might be a wait. You’ll need to ask for a number to be able to take a picture with the tree, and it’s a good idea to bring some water with you before heading down.
Devil’s Billabong
This is a cool place where you can witness an unusual natural phenomenon. Due to the washouts in the rock, the water cascades under it with force, flows through the cracks, and creates a powerful stream rushing upward.
Keep in mind that it’s quite dangerous to swim here, and it’s not recommended. Security will be strict about it, and if you try, they will intervene. When waves hit this spot, it becomes particularly hazardous, and no one can offer assistance. Additionally, the coral can be dangerous.

First and foremost, I highly recommend staying in Nusa Penida for at least 3 to 5 days. Otherwise, you’ll feel exhausted when you return to Bali Island after exploring this small gem.

The locals are incredibly kind and considerate, the food is very affordable, and you’ll enjoy the fresh air, comfortable budget hotels, clean water, and, of course, delicious Indonesian coffee at the cafes.
